¡Hola! Subscriber First Name,September is my favorite month because I was born on the first (the truth shall set me free). It also marks a new season, which, depending on where you are, might be felt in the weather or just in your mood. For me, it represents another trip around the sun; this year, I welcomed it, jumping from a 25-foot rock in a river in Utuado. So, this month, I want to remind you of something important that happens every four years, and it feels pretty much the same to me: elections. That’s where we decide who will run the country, its budget, and how they will "serve" us (let's remember that truly, they are our employees). So, it’s better to know who we’re voting for because, in the end, we’re the ones footing the bill.

Campaign Memories: Coño Vota
In 2020, we launched a campaign at Retazo to encourage voting. We used a new version of the” "bici print" from my spring-summer 2011 fashion collection, designed by the multifaceted artist Raquel Berrios of Buscabulla. Yes, before becoming an icon of independent music, Raquel was a fantastic textile designer, and she still is, besides being a dear friend. I asked Raqui to adjust her design to say Coño Vota (you better fk'inin vote!) It turned out spectacular! Here are some videos of the different colors for the print. We even got artists, activists, and influencers like Ile and Yoni Fritz to wear the shirts.

Should there be a second edition of the print for this election? Hit reply and let me know.

To exercise our rights as “employers” of these “public servants,” the first step is registering to vote in the elections. If you have the right to vote in Puerto Rico or are a Puerto Rican residing abroad and wish to exercise that right, you must register with the State Elections Commission. (The site is only in Spanish.) The registration deadline is September 21, so complete this process on time to participate in the upcoming elections. For information on how to register, click here. Depending on where you live in the United States, you need to register to vote, and some deadlines vary by state and type of election (general, primary, or special). For more information, click here. If you are somewhere else in the world, and the PR or the USA elections are not your concern, sorry, I promise the next newsletter will not be about voting, but quite honestly, wherever you are, go vote when it’s time!

Puertorican Designers I Admire:
Dani Fabrizi from Feria Calle, and Gaba from Tertulias Con Julia
I met Daniela Fabrizi more than 15 years ago in New York, and since then, we have been great accomplices; aside from being a great wardrobe designer for singers like Natalia Lafourcade and Ile, she created Feria Calle and Festival Arte Basura. I met Gaba more recently, but I’m fascinated by her project, Tertulias con Julia (as in Julia de Burgos). It turns out that both, along with one of our best independent journalists, Bianca Graulau, have launched a campaign called Nos Sostenemos ( meaning we sustain each other, we hold each other, we got each other) to raise funds and maintain the integrity of what they do best. Click here to participate in the campaign, buy a sticker, donate, or request t-shirts. Initially, the campaign’s t-shirts would be the “second-quality” remnants of the thousands sewn by Bluewater for Jockey. Today, those thousands of 100% cotton (grown in the south of the USA and sewn in PR) t-shirts, along with the machines, rest in peace in the graveyard of what was once the factory where I worked for the past seven years. May it all rest in peace.

My consulting services are for individuals and companies that need help with their operations, from the products they sell and create to the logistics of operations, supply chain, and infrastructure. I have over 15 years of experience in the creative industries, 7 of which I spent in a factory learning about manufacturing, from the most analog to the most technological methods. If you need guidance, let’s schedule a call here.
