Retazo: A circular fashion platform, from Puerto Rico

Retazo (Spanish for "fabric scrap" and "big challenge") was Puerto Rico's first circular fashion platform, founded by Auralís in 2017. Retazo's mission was to position Puerto Rico as a hub for high-end, nearshore, modular ready-to-wear manufacturing. This initiative aimed to attract brands worldwide interested in scaling their manufacturing from the island, a U.S. territory. The business's main pillars included educating designers and factories on circularity and fair trade, developing sustainable designer products, and managing production at Retazo's vetted factories. Unfortunately, the business closed in December 2020 due to the Pandemic, but Auralís continues to support designers and factories as a consultant on a case-by-case basis.
